coherence (waves)

Coherence expresses the potential for two waves to interfere. In simple terms, two waves said to be coherent means they maintain a constant phase difference, which implies that both waves have the same frequency. Waves can in fact be coherent even with different wavelengths, as wavelengths do not affect phase difference.
