\[t\]-distribution

Student_t_pdf.svg.png
\[t\]-distribution, sometimes known as Student's \[t\]-distribution or \[t_{\nu}\] is a continuous probability distribution that generalises the standard normal distribution. \[t_{\nu}\] has heavy-tails, i.e. decreases more slowly than an exponential distribution, and the amount of probability mass in the tails is controlled by the parameter \[\nu\] (degrees of freedom). When \[\nu\to\infty\], \[t_{\nu}\] becomes similar to \[\mathcal{N}(0,1)\] (see image above).
